A wind warning has been issued for north Vancouver Island Saturday.

Environment Canada says A strong pacific low-pressure system will bring southeasterly winds of 50 to 70 km/h to communities in the area, and also cause winds up to 90 km/h over exposed coastal areas this afternoon and evening.

They say that as the low passes to the northeast, winds will diminish below warning criteria but remain gusty through Sunday.

The federal agency adds that damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur and high winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.

Areas such as Sayward, Woss, Port Hardy, Port Mcneil and Port Allice are under the warning.

A wind warning has also been issued for parts of east Vancouver Island.
