Victoria’s got a great entertainment venue…and it floats

CHEK

The Breakwater Barge has been around for two years now, but this year, it’s really come into its own.

It’s a huge concrete barge that somehow floats. Located between the breakwater and the cruise ship port, the barge can accommodate over 300 individuals.

The barge is an initiative of the Victoria Harbour Authority and is operated by promoter Deanna Young.

It can be rented for various outdoor functions but its popularity this year stems from its Friday night music shows with local bands and acts like Jesse Roper.

There’s a food truck right on the barge and on event nights even more people come to join the fun. Drinks are available with food orders.

There are tables to eat and drink at. When that marine layer starts to overcome the warmer offshore air, patio warmers are brought out.

Friday nights the gates to the barge open at 5 p.m. while the main acts take the stage at 7:30 p.m.. To maintain a good relationship with the nearby neighbours, performances wrap up at 9:30 p.m.
