The fire at 603 Pandora Avenue started early on the morning of May 6 as crews were alerted only after the alarm went off from a neighbouring building.

By the time crews arrived, the fire in the basement was significant and accelerating quickly.

The cause of the fire is not known and fire investigators, armed with cameras and assisted by heavy equipment, have started to dig through the rubble.

Victoria fire is also investigating a fire that caused extensive damage to a building in the 1300-block of Broad Street Saturday morning.
