Vancouver Island road reopens after washout on Christmas Day

A critical road on northern Vancouver Island has reopened after it closed due to flooding on Christmas Day.

Sections of Head Bay Road, which connects the Village of Tahsis with the rest of Vancouver Island, was covered in water on Dec. 25 and remained closed until late afternoon on Dec. 26.

Around the same time, crews were working to clear Highway 4 of debris, after wind knocked down rocks and trees onto the highway along Cameron Lake. It also reopened to travellers on Boxing Day.

Environment Canada is warning of more strong winds for almost all areas of the Island on Wednesday, as well as a potential for power outages and localized flooding.
