A registered nurse in Tofino has received a one-year suspension of her nursing registration for multiple instances of sexual misconduct towards her coworkers.

A notice posted on the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives website says Andrea McGowan was issued the one-year suspension for a “specific incident” of sexual misconduct involving a coworker at a 2021 work function, on-and-off duty sexual misconduct incidents towards coworkers which include unwelcome and unwanted sexualized comments and gestures and other messages through social media.

The notice says McGowan has voluntarily agreed to the one-year suspension, according to a notice posted to the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives.

“The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public,” the notice says.
