Thousands attend 7 festivals this weekend as Victoria heats up

With a sunny forecast throughout Saturday and Sunday, Victoria is abuzz with many festivals giving everyone many reasons to enjoy the weather outdoors.

Saturday, June 8 brought Indigenous culture to the Starlight Stadium in Langford at the Change Makers Gathering Festival.

Attendees were treated to free bannock tacos, a modern cultural favorite, as well as coast Salish art, cedar weaving, art workshops, Indigenous card and board games.

Also on Saturday, the Annual Vic Fest at Banfield Park was the perfect setting for a festival surrounded by nature.

The park was lined with local artisans, food trucks and fun interactive games for the family.

Festival goers also soaked in some sunshine sitting on the grass overlooking the water to enjoy live music on stage.

All weekend long, the Mabuhay! festival of Philippine culture will be showcasing Filipino dance, music and food at the Centennial Square from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Seaside Music Festival (formerly the Seaside Folk and Fiddle Festival) is also happening this weekend featuring seven concerts at five different venues including Sidney, Salt Spring Island and Victoria at the Beacon Bandshell and at the McPherson Theatre.

On Sunday, June 9, the India Cultural Association is hosting ‘India Fest’ featuring cultural performances and exhibitions at Beckwith Park from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Cook Street Village will have their Village Block Party with live music, drinks, dog races, food trucks and over 120 local vendors from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Finally, The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority and Eagle Wing Tours is inviting the public to the annual World Ocean Day at Fisherman’s Wharf from 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about local research and conservation initiatives through educational, fun and family-friendly activities.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of World Ocean Day at Fisherman’s Wharf, a flagship event for Ocean Week Victoria.
