A task force has been approved by the Victoria committee of the whole to review the remuneration of council.

This comes after the council previously came under fire for approving a 25 per cent pay increase for themselves.

In April, council voted to refer the decision on a pay increase to an independent task force, and now has approved the three members on the task force.

Margaret Lucas, a former Victoria councillor; Ron Rice, executive director of the Victoria Native Friendship Centre; and Stephanie Smith, former president of the BC General Employees’ Union.

Staff chose the three people to form the task force, who said they were chosen for their “reputations and professional experience.”

The task force will develop terms of reference for the remuneration review, interview the members of council, review the 2008 remuneration report and review the previous council decision or make further recommendations.
