Pedestrian, 79, suffers life-threatening injuries in downtown Victoria crash

Investigators with Victoria Police are seeking witnesses and dashcam video after a senior was struck by a car in the downtown core.

The crash occurred just after 11 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Fisgard Street and Government Street.

Police say the pedestrian, 79, was walking across the road when they were struck by a vehicle.

BC Emergency Health Services told CHEK News that two ambulances were dispatched to the scene – a primary care paramedic ambulance and an advanced care paramedic ambulance.

The victim of the crash was taken to hospital with what police call life-threatening injuries.

The intersection was closed for several hours as traffic analysts investigated the scene.

Police say the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

VicPD is asking anyone who may have seen the crash or who has dashcam footage of the incident to contact the E-Comm Report Desk at 250-995-7654, if they have not spoken with police already.

Correction: A previous version of this story said the pedestrian was a woman. As of Friday afternoon, police have not released details on the identity of the pedestrian.
