Over 13,000 without power on Vancouver Island as strong winds hit

Over 13,000 customers on Vancouver Island were without power early Sunday morning as strong winds hit the south coast again.

The largest outages were in the south Island, with Metchosin seeing 5,979 in the dark and North Saanich with 2,237 around 12 a.m.

Sunday at 11 a.m. 2,571 were still without power.

Wind warnings were issued for north, west, east and south Vancouver Island predicting gusts up to 100 km/h.

Winds eased by Sunday morning and hydro crews made progress restoring power.

Multiple strong fronts have been pounding the south coast this week causing major outages, such as the one in Nanaimo on Friday where around 14,000 customers were impacted.
