A call to check on the well-being of a man in Langford led to an arrest and the seizure of prohibited weapons on Wednesday.

The West Shore RCMP says officers were called to the 700-block of Goldstream Avenue to check on the well-being of a man who seemed to be “heavily under the influence” of drugs.

When Mounties arrived, they found the man as well as a collapsible baton beside him.

“As this is considered a prohibited weapon, the man was placed under arrest,” said RCMP in a release.

While the man was being taken into custody, Mounties say they found a knife and replica hand gun that was “loaded with replica ammunition” on his person.

“The suspect does not have any prior weapons-related convictions and there were no reports of the suspect threatening to use the weapons,” said West Shore RCMP.

The man was held in police custody until he was sober, then was released on conditions not to possess weapons.

Mounties say they will recommend charges related to possession of a prohibited weapon.
