A mobile home in Sooke was extensively damaged in a fire on Oct. 27, 2019.

Fire officials say a mobile home in Sooke will likely need to be torn down following a fire on Sunday.

Sooke Fire Chief Kenn Mount said firefighters were called to the blaze in the 4900 block of Grant Road just before 6 p.m. Sooke Fire Rescue also received mutual aid from Otter Point, Metchosin and East Sooke. Mount said since the mobile home was in the back of a mobile home park, it was difficult for multiple crews to access it.

A total of 27 firefighters were able to get the fire under control within half an hour and complete cleanup within three hours.

Mount said the fire started in the back bedroom of the mobile home, which was built in the 70s, and the damage was contained to the rear of the home.

“It will likely be demolished,” Mount said.

The fire is considered suspicious and RCMP are investigating. There were no occupants in the home at the time of the fire.
