Sooke RCMP said they seized this rifle and ammunition while executing a search warrant on Feb. 6, 2019.

A Sooke man was arrested on Feb. 6 after police seized meth, an assault rifle, a sawed-off shotgun, brass knuckles, ammunition and magazines, according to RCMP.

Alexander Taylor, 39, was arrested at a cabin in the 1600-block of Connie Road following an investigation into a break-in at an RV compound on Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) property on Jan. 10.

Police said during that break-in, 18 recreational vehicles stored there were broken into and a significant amount of personal items were stolen.

Sooke RCMP and CAF military police executed a search warrant Taylor’s Connie Road cabin on Feb. 6. Police said the majority of stolen property sought in the search warrant was found in and around a trailer near the cabin.

Taylor has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, unsafe storage of firearms, breach of recognizance and possession of firearms while prohibited. Other charges with respect to the stolen property, firearms and meth possession are pending. Police are still investigating the break-in and search. Taylor is in custody and is scheduled to appear in Colwood Provincial Court on March 7.
