The assault occurred on May 31.

Saanich police are on the lookout for a man who allegedly assaulted a security guard with a skateboard in late May.

The assault occurred on May 31 at a store in the Uptown Shopping Centre.

A security guard reportedly saw the man skateboarding around the store and grabbing items off the shelves, before trying to hide them under his clothes, according to Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers.

“When security was able to catch up and confront you, you made the decision to strike one security officer in the face with your skateboard,” said Crime Stoppers in a social media post Thursday.

The attack left the security guard with serious injuries. Police say the worker required stitches, and “extensive damage” was done to their teeth, which required dental work.

Police are now asking the public to help identify the suspect, pictured below.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers online or at 1-800-222-8477.
