BC Transit says some fare products that are currently available in five systems across Vancouver Island will be phased out on Oct. 1.
The Victoria, Cowichan Valley, Port Alberni, Campbell River and Comox Valley transit systems will see the changes.
The changes will be for the types of products for sale, the fares themselves will remain unchanged.
In all five systems, monthly passes for adults, seniors and students will be phased out. In systems with the fare, the post-secondary monthly pass and semester fares will also be phased out. In all systems except Port Alberni, the 10-pass of single-ride tickets will end.
BC Transit says this change comes after the rollout of the Umo fare system was completed province-wide.
In all systems, cash and the BC Bus Pass will continue to be accepted. The fare types that will be phased out will continue to be accepted until riders use them up.
BC Transit says there is also plans to enable debit and credit payments on board buses in the future.
The following fare products will remain in each of their respective systems.
Victoria
- Umo Cash Balance

- Adult 30-Day Pass
- Concession 30-Day Pass
In Victoria, fares will increase at some point in 2025.
