Cyclist hit by marked Central Saanich Police vehicle, investigation underway: IIO

An investigation has been opened after a Central Saanich Police officer hit a cyclist with a marked police vehicle.

The Independent Investigation Office of B.C. says it is investigating the incident that occurred on May 21 around 10 p.m.

The IIO says Central Saanich Police informed the office of the cyclist being hit the same day.

Police say the person was riding a bike along Wallace Drive in the 7100 block when he was hit by the officer driving the marked police vehicle.

IIO is a department tasked as civilian oversight of police in B.C. and investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death.
