Canada’s senior women’s national basketball team is coming to Victoria to train ahead of the Olympics, and will face off against Portugal for an exhibition game this June.
Fans can catch the international game at the Save-On Foods Memorial Centre on June 26, with tickets going live today, May 24.
Organizers say that Island fans set a record last year, when Team Canada faced off against Japan in Victoria.
The arena saw a record-setting 4,600 fans attend the game as part of the Rim2Rim series, and this year organizers hope to break that record again with a completely sold-out crowd.
“Hosting Portugal in Victoria next month will be an important early test for our Senior Women’s National Team as they continue building towards the Paris 2024 Olympic Games,” said Michael Bartlett, president and CEO of Canada Basketball in a release on May 7.
“On behalf of Canada Basketball and our team, I’d like to extend my gratitude and appreciation to the Province of British Columbia, Destination Greater Victoria, the City of Victoria, and Rifflandia Entertainment Company for their ongoing support and help in organizing this series,” he said.
Besides the game on June 26, Canada’s senior women’s national basketball team will be training in the city from June 24 to June 30.
Tickets for the game can be purchased online, with floor seats priced at $65 and bowl seats at $27.
The game begins at 7 p.m. at the Save-On Foods Memorial Centre, 1925 Blanshard St.
