Two men are facing a range of serious charges after a man was assaulted and held against his will in Campbell River earlier this year.

The Campbell River RCMP say that in August, while investigating a drug trafficking case, officers learned that a man had been badly beaten with a weapon and forcibly confined earlier in the year, though police did not specify when the incident occurred.

At the time, investigators thought the attack was targeted.

Months later, on Dec. 3, police say two suspects were arrested for the assault.

On Sunday, Jeremy Calvert and Derrin Boyes were arrested and one day later they were both charged with six offenses, including forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, extortion, uttering threats and attempting to defeat, pervert or obstruct justice.

In a release Thursday, police said no trial date had been set yet. None of the allegations have been proven in court.
