A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in Port Alberni after allegedly stabbing an employee then stealing liquor from a local liquor store over the weekend, according to RCMP.

In a release, Port Alberni RCMP says officers were called to the unspecified liquor store at 10 p.m. on March 30. Officers arrived and “discovered a stabbing had occurred.”

In conducting the investigation, investigators reviewed surveillance footage, which RCMP says showed the suspect “brutally attacking” the victim, who is an employee at the store, then stealing liquor and fleeing.

Hours later on March 31, officers found the suspect, who is a 16-year-old boy. He has been arrested for attempted murder and robbery.

RCMP says a bail hearing was held for the boy, and he is being held in custody until a court appearance later this month.

The victim was brought to a trauma hospital to be treated for her injuries, which police say were serious but not life-threatening.
