WATCH: Dashcam footage shows a U-Haul passing cars on a solid yellow line on Sooke Road. Submitted.

A dashcam has captured a near miss on Sooke Road that involved a U-Haul that had been used to ram a police car earlier on Thursday morning.

Sooke RCMP said an officer was on patrol in the area of Drennan Road and Highway 14 and saw two males in a U-Haul cube truck with Alberta licence plates just after 10 a.m.

The officer pulled the police car in front of the truck, which was stopped, to inquire about what the two people were doing in the area.

Investigators say the person driving the truck rammed the police car to get enough room to escape and fled eastbound on Sooke Road at a high rate of speed. The officer was not injured. There was minor damage to the police car.

Minutes later, a dashcam captured video of the U-Haul passing a vehicle on a solid yellow line.

The truck is described as a smaller cube van or truck with Alberta licence plates, but the plate number was not obtained.

Police say the suspects are Caucasian and were wearing black and grey hoodies, dishevelled in appearance and believed to be in their 20s.

Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the incident with the police car or saw the U-Haul truck to contact Sooke RCMP 250-642-5241 or Crime Stoppers.
